Named for the distinct zig-zag pattern shown by some of the culms. Medium size lime-green leaves grow on darker green canes, which turn burgundy color in direct sun. Grows up to 31′ tall with 2¾” diameter culms in the climate of origin, but is typically half that tall in the SF Bay Area, where it is usually grown as a short, arching hedge. Good for containers and great for erosion control. Cold hardy to -15 degrees. Likes full sun to a half-day of afternoon sun. Flowered and produced seed at Bamboo Sourcery in 1995, therefore, it will not flower again for a very long time!
