‘BOO-CHAR‘.
We make it by burning our waste bamboo with a special technique (explained below), resulting in biochar that we then crush and inoculate with compost or compost tea. Biochar is the end product from burning waste plant material (in our case, bamboo) in a controlled process called pyrolysis. It is a highly porous, carbon-rich material that enhances soil quality. Biochar has an immense surface area and pore structure that provides a secure habitat for microorganisms and fungi. These pores are also particularly important for water and nutrient retention in the soil. Agriculturally, it is used as a soil amendment since it helps to increase soil fertility, soil structure, and soil quality. It is also used as a carbon sequestration method.
