Description
An attractive clumping ornamental frequently used in European gardens, it is hardy to -20 degrees, likes shade, and grows to 15′ tall. It is found in China at elevations of 10,000 feet, where it is an important food for the Giant Pandas. Small closely spaced bluish-green culms and delicate foliage create a deeply arching, umbrella-like form. Does not do well in summer heat, especially where nights do not cool down below 70 F. Flowered in 1994 in northern California.
