Description
Common Name: “Blue Bamboo” or “Teague’s Blue”
Description: A high mountain Himalayan bamboo with highly decorative, powdery, sky-blue culms with dark purple node rings, growing rapidly up to 20’ tall in a straight upright form. A reddish to purplish blush spreads out from the nodes on the young culms in sun. Bears medium large, 1” x 5”, bluish green leaves at a rakish angle.
Recommended Uses: Ornamental and unique specimen plant.
Ideal Growing Conditions: Half day of morning sun brings out the purplish blush around the nodes. A high mountain plant growing at over 6,000’ elevations, it prefers high humidity with mild temperatures and cool nights.
Other Considerations: Does not do well in areas with very high summer heat of the southern states. Will grow in more sun, but canes tend to yellow. Shoots in the spring and fall.
