Bamboo for Specific Uses

Open groves create the classic bamboo “look” that comes to mind when most people think of bamboo. Be aware that only running type bamboos can create this effect (clumping bamboos are much too clustered and dense.)

Using large timber bamboo species, the lower branches are shaded out, creating an open, airy under-story. However, even mid-sized bamboos can be used create a mini open grove look if lower branches are pruned and canes are thinned out to create even spacing.
